How to join and create a meetup

17 Sep 2026

A meetup is a community event. It is not a paid booking. It does not use checkout or listing reviews.

How do I find and join a meetup?

  1. Open Meetup on the site, or Meetup in the customer dashboard.
  2. Open the event details.
  3. If the meetup is public, choose join.
  4. If the meetup is private, send a join request, then wait for the organizer to approve it.
  5. If the quota is full, join the waitlist.

Meetups you join, request, or wait for appear in the customer dashboard under the Joined tab.

The participant count is people who joined. The organizer is shown separately and does not use a guest slot.

The owner does not see join, waitlist, or leave on the public page of their own event.

How do I leave a meetup?

Open the meetup on the Joined tab, then leave. You can leave while the meetup is still active. Leave also cancels a pending join request, or removes you from the waitlist.

The organizer cannot leave their own event. Cancel or delete the meetup if the event will not run.

How do I create a meetup?

  1. Sign in as a customer.
  2. Open Meetup, then Create Meetup.
  3. Enter a title, place, location, time, description, and image.
  4. Choose public or private.
  5. Enter Maximum guests, then save.

Maximum guests is the number of people who can join. As the organizer you do not use that quota. If you enter 50, 50 people can join. Do not subtract one seat for yourself.

A meetup becomes Confirmed after 2 guests join. The organizer is not counted.

How do I manage a meetup I created?

Open the meetup on the organized tab, then Manage. From there you can:

  • approve or reject join requests on a private meetup (the Requests tab)
  • move a person from the waitlist when a slot is open, or remove them from the queue
  • add a co-organizer
  • remove a regular participant
  • generate a check-in code
  • transfer ownership
  • open the group chat

A co-organizer can approve requests, generate a check-in code, and remove regular members. A co-organizer cannot add another co-organizer, transfer ownership, edit, cancel, or delete the meetup.

How do I check in on the event day?

The organizer or a co-organizer opens Manage, then generates a check-in code. Tell guests that code.

Guests open the public meetup page and enter the code. Check-in closes after the meetup ends. Meetup check-in uses an event code. It is not traveler check-in on a trip or experience booking.

How do I export a calendar or report a meetup?

On the public meetup page, download the calendar file if that link is shown. For a safety or content problem, open Report on that meetup. Choose whether the report is about the event content or about a participant, then send a reason.

A meetup does not create a listing review. For a review of a trip, experience, or rental, open the reviews article.
